The value of Lot Madeleine’s work is not found in the amount of words she uses. Through a precise process she elevates her quotes into seemingly simple, but always intelligently layered constructs, wherein each word becomes an invaluable building block.Based on the idea that you always need a spectator to achieve an interpretation, Lot ’s expressions instigate an unexpected interaction. In an ongoing process where the public space and a variety of objects serve as a canvas for her craft.
the ingredients are always the same:
the quote is always the title.
the paint is always black, white, and
sometimes a bit of gold.
the canvas is always square.
the outcome is always… different.
my process of making art is a reflection
of how my brain works. the repetition of things I find soothing,
and the fewer decisions I have to make, the more freedom I feel
to create while all kinds of thoughts pass by, and sometimes…
there is just nothingness…
when I reach that point its meditation.
and suddenly the work is done..
